TESSA - TEXT AND SIGN SUPPORT ASSISTANT
TESSA, the TExt and Sign Support Assistant has been developed at UEA to meet the needs of people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Developed in collaboration with the UK Post Office, the system combines speech recognition technology and state of the art virtual human animation to enable Post Office workers to communicate with deaf customers.

At the University of East Anglia we have developed a new way to change colour into grey scale such that details are preserved. The method is not a simple tone adjustment but rather is a computational strategy that delivers grey scales that preserve contrast relationships.

A new hybrid speech visualization technique has been developed at the University of East Anglia based upon appearance models, which can be used to create almost video-realistic sequences of a talking face enunciating arbitrary phrases.

As part of a joint initiative we have developed a PC-based volume rendering application, called 3DView. The application uses 2D or 3D textures to render volumetric data, for example from CT or MR scans.
